Could you give a brief description about how to get a mastodon/mastopod account and what to do after getting one? The whole server choosing thing is confusing. Where do I go to login and how do I choose a server and how do I connect with others? I made an account at @jeff_zucker@mastodon.social, now what?
The easiest metaphor is that it’s like email. You created an account at mastodon.social (your server - similar to choosing Gmail), and now you can follow other people if you know their handles (like how you can email people if you know their email address).
The starter pack is a way to kickstart that list of people to follow, like an address book. If you visit Solid - Mastodon Starter Pack, you can sign in with your mastodon.social account, and then click the button at the top to follow a bunch of Solid people.
(And “following” means that you will see their posts if you open mastodon.social and sign in.)
