Change license of contributions on this forum?

Sarven proposed (IIUC) to change the license of contributions to this forum from CC NC-SA 3.0 to CC-BY 4.0.

I think the version update from 3.0 to 4.0 should be OK, but I don’t think it’s possible to remove the ‘share-alike’ and ‘non-commercial’ clauses from previous contributions. We could maybe use a more permissive license for new forum contributions going forward though?

What do other people think?

What needs to happen practically / settings-wise for this change to happen?

I quite like CC BY-NC-SA! If you are using something for commercial benefit, you ought to benefit the person whose work you are using (or at least inform them and ask for permission).

Maybe, users can be requested to select a tick box for allowing a more permissive license.

+1 on keeping CC BY-NC-SA or bumping its version. There is a clear difference between publishing a spec or a library and sharing opinions on a forum. I don’t find the consistency argument with MIT compelling enough to justify switching to CC BY.
