Vocabulary/Helpdesk Resources

After seeing the Backend-for-Frontend SOLID thread, I’d like to ask if there are any plans for compiling a list of resources to understand some of the references to vocabulary and acronyms for better reading comprehension for people with little knowledge of web development, especially as these concepts relate to SOLID?

Yes there is a long-standing project of the Solid Team led (and unfortunately due to time constraints, neglected) by me. See Solid Glossary. I intend to get the glossary more in shape for public input in the next few months and can use all the help and suggestions I can get. Feel free to comment in the repo or grab me as @jeff-zucker in one of the gitter chats.

Thanks for the resources. These are nice but there were also other topics mentioned that weren’t SOLID specific but I wasn’t familiar with in the other thread like “storage-local compute” and “Wasm-based” which I get now is WebAssembly, but hadn’t experienced it before.

See my response in the other thread. The problem you raise can be helped by tools like glossaries, but it also requires a change in our community culture. We all need to be conscious of our audience and the degree to which technical terms are both necessary and a barrier. I’m in favor of a big tent - everyone is welcome to come under the Solid awning. The only way to get a big tent is to include more than the in-crowd and that requires attention to language and audience.

No, I agree on wanting the community to be large. The other thread was very informative but it felt like the first day I had my old job, where everyone who had been working there for 5 years was throwing around terms that I’d never heard before.
