Discovery phase workshops revealed rich local archives alongside concerns about ownership, access, and preservation.
Jacob identified Solid Pods and Web 3.0 technologies and developed a demo archive to demonstrate how a decentralised approach could work in practice as a potential model for adoption.
Some considerations for discussion:
-
Location of materials: Where should archive resources reside, and how does decentralisation affect “depositing”?
-
Roles and levels: Fully hosted own Pods (contributors manage everything) vs managed interface (archive hosts, contributor controls access via interface).
-
Access and protection: Can Solid help ensure contributors maintain control over their materials, preventing unauthorised downloading or sharing?
-
Integration with preservation: Are there any existing examples of preservation with Solid, how could we address long-term integrity, fixity, and usability of archived content?
